ABOUT AMAZONAS
The Amazonas Association was founded in Zagreb in 2004 with the aim of fostering positive change and social engagement.
Our goals are to:
- encourage the development of the creative and social potential of children, young people, and adults
- promote cultural and other diversity, tolerance, and understanding
- foster healthy lifestyles, physical activity, and recreational sports
- promote social solidarity and enable socially excluded groups to take part and actively engage in the community
- prevent unacceptable behavior among children and youth
- promote non-violence and peacebuilding
- promote capoeira and other aspects of Afro-Brazilian culture
- strengthen intercultural cooperation
- encourage active participation and mobility of young people
We operate in three main areas: social support, active and mobile youth, and empowerment of professionals.
Our regular activities include programs for children, young people, and adults, with a special focus on working with vulnerable groups – children, youth, and families at risk of poverty and social exclusion.
What makes our work distinctive and innovative is the use of capoeira and physical activities as methods of working with children and young people at risk.
To ensure the success and quality of our projects, we collaborate with numerous associations, institutions, and centers in Croatia, the region, Europe, and worldwide.
