ABOUT US
The Amazonas Association was registered in Zagreb in 2004 with the purpose of promoting positive change and social activation.
Our goals are to:
- Encourage the development of creative and social potentials in children, youth, and adults.
- Promote cultural and other diversities, tolerance, and understanding.
- Encourage healthy lifestyles, physical activity, and recreational sports.
- Foster social solidarity, enable socially excluded groups to participate actively in the community.
- Prevent unacceptable behavior in children and youth.
- Promote nonviolence and peacebuilding.
- Promote capoeira and other aspects of Afro-Brazilian culture.
- Strengthen intercultural cooperation.
- Encourage active participation and mobility of young people.
Our activities are based on implementing programs and projects focused on education, empowerment, and improving the quality of life for children, youth, and adults in the local community. Through three areas of work – social support, active and mobile youth, and empowerment of experts – we organize activities for the active use of free time, promote volunteering and involvement in the local community, and conduct workshops, education, and training. Through capoeira and sports activities, we implement programs for the development of social skills in children and youth. In our work, we largely focus on socially vulnerable groups and those with reduced opportunities (children and youth with behavioral problems, at-risk children and youth, and families at risk). To make our projects more successful and of higher quality, we collaborate with many associations, institutions, and centers in the country, region, Europe, and the world.
