Juventud y Solidaridad Europea en Alzira
This was my first long-term European solidarity corps project and it was quite an adventure. I came to Spain, in Alzira, in March and my project ended in November. Beforehand I knew Spanish at an A level, but there was no problem since the Spanish lessons were included in the project and you get to learn from the surroundings.
I was an English assistant in a primary school and I had to come to work at 9 am which is a nice luxury, the extra hour of beauty sleep hurts no one. My school has a lot of different activities. To exclude specifically – most interesting ones for me were the Wizard of Oz musical, sports day and that time when pupils of all grades learned about the flora and fauna of the North Pole.
Now a little about the other European solidarity corps volunteers! Most of them are Italians, Turks and Russians. There were a couple of us from Eastern Europe, Croatia, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic and two girls from Belgium, France and Germany.
My flatmates were Charlotte from France and Mariam from Armenia. We have had a lot of hangouts and we especially loved travelling around Spain! Our favorite destination is definitely Cullera – the beach. I have learned something new from all of them, like pasta from Italians and coffee from Turks.
European solidarity corps is an amazing opportunity to learn about everything new and adapt to specific situations!
