Can you make it better? – Anxiety

Hello everyone 🙂

I want to explain to you today what anxiety is and at what point it could turn out to be a concern in your life!

Before an event, like a presentation or a date, you certainly know the feeling of anxiety. It is the normal reaction of your body to a stressful situation. The feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. It’s safe and normal, and it helps us remain focused or even make better choices.

In general some symptoms of anxiety include increased heart rate, rapid breathing, restlessness, trouble concentrating or difficulty falling asleep. For example if you are feeling anxious you can’t focus on your work, or you don’t want to start an assignment.

Sometimes it also feels easier to avoid the task, place or event when you feel anxious, but it usually doesn’t help the situation. But if you don’t face the situation, you’ll never know whether it is really that hard. It will make it easier to repeat this pattern, and you will inconvenience yourself more in the future and restrict your potential.

Typically, after the event, this feeling would disappear, but if it doesn’t, it may be a sign of a more severe condition. The feeling of anxiety can be present for a longer period of time which makes it harder to function in your daily life. This separates what is considered normal anxiety to something more pathological (involving or caused by a physical or mental disease). If you feel like this, this is also a sign for you to look after yourself and your mental health.

Considering that we are also living through a global pandemic, and we don’t know when this will end, the state of feeling anxious over a longer period of time can be considered normal and is something that a lot of people experience. But if you have the feeling that it is restricting you, you should definitely talk to a trusted person and think about what you can do to make it better!

Next Friday I will share some advice that could help you relieve your anxiety.

Until then, I found a quote that I feel is something that could put things in a different

perspective for you 🙂

“Trust yourself. You’ve survived a lot, and you’ll survive whatever is coming.”
