brazilactica

Brazilactica is a festival of Brazilian culture that takes place in Zagreb in May every year, and brings a series of workshops, lectures, performances, themed evenings and film screenings dedicated to Brazilian culture with guests from Brazil and Europe.

Last year, the 9th edition of the festival took place from 8th to 11th May. During the five days of the festival, our fellow citizens enjoyed Brazilian rhythms, sounds, energy, culture and movement throughout Zagreb. Workshops and presentations of Afro-Brazilian capoeira skills, a samba workshop and a capoeira workshop for the youngest with superhero face painting were held. The accompanying program of the festival consisted of a ‘journey through the roots of Brazilian culture’, a pub quiz, a jam session and a Capoeira story. The festival was organized by the Amazonas Association thanks to partners: the Pločnik Club, the Zagreb Youth Center and the Juta Kota Bar. The event was also supported by the Brazilian Embassy in Zagreb.

Last year’s Brazilactica was held in a reduced but equally cheerful content due to the Covid 19 virus pandemic – through the Brazilactica weekend from 18th to 20th June. It consisted of a workshop on preparing Brazilian gastronomy specialties, a coffee workshop, a free capoeira workshop and a knowledge quiz. In addition, during the event, the “Amazon Fire Mural” was set up in the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, which aimed to provide credible information about the fire in the Amazon rainforest last year and its impact on the environment.
