Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance,acrobatics and music. It was developed in Brazil mainly by african slaves, at the beginning of the 16th century. It is known for its quick and complex maneuvers, predominantly using power, speed, and leverage across a wide variety of kicks, spins and techniques.

Samba is a Brazilian music genre and dance style, with its roots in Africa via the West African slave trade and African religious traditions. Although there are various forms of samba in Brazil, with popular rhythms originated from drumming, samba as a music genre has its origins in Rio de Janeiro.
During the Brazilactica, on Friday 10th of May, you can join our samba workshop. It is open for everybody, from beginners to advanced, only needed equipment is good mood!

Workshop will be led by our ESC (European solidarity corps) volunteer Cecilia Pagliari from Italy who is very experiences in different dance styles.



Capoeira is a martial art with the high emphasys on "art" side! Flips, throws and blows + theatrical side of capoeira will make you wonder do laws of physics even apply :)

INTERACTIVE LECTURE: "Journey trough the roots of Brazilian culture"

If you want to know more about Brazil as a country of coffee, samba, carnival, football and capoeira you can join our Interactive lecture, on the opening day, Wednesday 8th of May. Through the presentation, all together, we will explore rich Brazilian history, from the past to nowadays and have a discussion and exchange of opinions about multiculturalism in Brazil. Workshop will be led by Blaž Glavinić, archeologist, in a Youth Center Zagreb, Gajeva 2.


This year's Brazilian pub quiz will be on May 9th, Thursday. The quiz is open to everybody who want to participate and share their knowledge about Brazilian culture. Also, it is a great opportunity to learn something new. The quiz will be led by Blaž Glavinić, archaeologist and pub quiz fan. Information about registration is coming soon.


This jam session is dedicated to rhythm celebration. Improvisation and socialization on the streets are part of Afro - Brazilian culture. Let's celebrate this on the streets of Zagreb. We are inviting all practitioners of different art, dance or music styles, to join our celebration. Bring an instrument and play with us, dance and show us your skills. Saturday, May 11th on European square! Join us!


Like every year, during the festival you can find something for your kids, too. This year we are presenting you our 'Little school of superheroes'! The workshop will be on Saturday, 11th of May on Kralja Tomislava square. It will be led by experienced Amazonas capoeira trainers and it is open for all school kids. Moreover, before and after the workshop your kid can have superhero face-painting performed by our ESC (European Solidarity Corps) volunteer Jana Kammentons from Germany.


Capoeira is an art form that defies description. It is a fight, it is dance, a game. It is creativity, intuition, grace, strength, history and tradition. ... Capoeira is a story of triumph and freedom. Seeing the performance IS A MUST!
